UPDATED HAIR CARE ROUTINE || L'Oréal, Biotin, Watermans Hair Growth Products, do they really work?!!!

I thought I would update you all on my hair care routine as my last hair post was over a year ago and I want to introduce to you some new product staples that I now use  each week and how I keep my hair in good condition. *Side note: My last hair care post which was focusing solely on Watermans Hair Growth Products has gotten more views than any other post on my blog! The link is below if you want to give it a read!
Now if you follow me on my social media accounts like Twitter and Instagram then you will know that my hair has changed dramatically….. I’ve spoken all about my hair transformation and why in a separate blogpost which you can read coming soon!

I’ve always been known for having super brightly coloured hair and a question I would get a lot (when I say a lot, I mean on a weekly basis… for years!) is ‘oh how has your hair not fallen out yet?’ And the answer is that the dyes I used were free from chemicals, vegan and cruelty free and actually conditioned my hair as opposed to damaging it; I always condition my hair and try not to use too much heat on it. So that’s why I never went bald…….
But what I have recently found out is that stress can damage your hair more than any harsh bleach or piping hot curling tong. Now I wouldn’t say that my hair was in terrible condition but it had definitely deteriorated over the last few months as well as my skin. I’ve had quite a few big changes happen in my life and although I am the most happy I have ever been, I guess subconsciously I’ve been quite stressed and it’s started to take a toll on my health but I just haven’t noticed as I’ve been preoccupied with everything that’s been going on.

Isn’t it weird that you can be so bloody happy and finally know who and what you want it life yet stress can still creep up on you and bite you on the bum…?

Anyway I decided to go for a big change to go alongside the big changes in my life and really start to take care of myself. I have a long way to go but I have a certain someone pushing me to be the best person I can be so I really want to do well for them. But it is important to remember that with stress and anxiety it can be so unpredictable and it’s ok to have a bad day (or week) you just have to stay focused and strong because somewhere you are someone’s inspiration, so do it for them!
Ok, I feel like I’m getting a liiiittle too deep now… so back to hair care!!!
SHAMPOO AND CONDITONER

The key to healthy hair is a healthy scalp and to do that I use Watermans Hair Growth products. I have been using their shampoo and conditioner for over a year now and I can honestly say that it really does work!!! Your hair will grow and the condition of your hair will improve.  I’m the type of person that goes from brand to brand, product to product, always trying new things. So you know if I stick to a product and repurchase then it’s definitely a winner. I do like to swap my shampoos and conditioners up a little bit from time to time just so my hair doesn’t get used to a product and stop working. (I’m sure that’s a thing, right?!) Also I get sent a lot of hair products to try and review so if I didn’t use them, my room would overflow.  So Watermans is 100% a staple in my hair care routine and I highly recommend it to all of you.

HAIR GROWTH TABLETS

I see a lot of companies out there selling ‘hair growth pills’ these days and can’t help but cringe at the price they are being sold for. The main ingredient in these tablets that are going to benefit your hair is Biotin, so that’s the bit you want to look out for when buying. Most of these products have such a low dosage that taking one tablet a day really isn’t going to impact your hair that much to be able to see a difference. I have been interested in trying Hair Burst tablets before but I can’t even find how much biotin is in each tablet and it’s around £25 for only 30 days’ worth.
I used to take Biotin 300mcg (0.3mg) daily from Holland and Barrett which the label advises I could take up to 4 tablets a day, which is 1200mcg. But they also sold a higher amount of 1000mcg (1mg) which advised I could take 2 tablets a day = 2000mcg. This would cost me about £15 for 100 tablets which I thought was quite reasonable at the time… until I did some more research.

I found out you can actually take a lot more biotin a day without a chance of ‘overdosing’. If there is too much in your system then it would just flush out in your pee. Although I would definitely recommend checking with a doctor first, especially if you want to take a higher dosage. I started on a lower dosage and worked my way up and it has worked great for me but some other reviews have shown it can have different effects.
On amazon I found 100 tablets for around £6 of 5000mcg which I would take 2 a day (10mg) which are the ones I have been using for years now. There have been periods where I haven’t taken it for a couple of months and I can really notice a difference so I have the pot by my bed and always make sure I take it before I go to sleep. Another must have item in my hair care routine.

HAIR MASQUES/ CONDITIONERS

                           L’Oréal Professional Enforcer Masque

I like to make sure I use a hair masque once or twice a week to help keep my hair hydrated and to help split ends and dryness etc. I like to spend a little bit more money on this step as I generally find they work better than cheaper brands. One of my all-time favourite brands to use is L’Oréal Professional and I just love love love their deep conditioners. I’ve been using the Lumino Contrast Masque which is great for highlighted and dry hair. I usually apply it to dry hair and leave it on for about 30 minutes whilst I’m sat in the bath… watching YouTube or Netflix…... with wine! I then recently purchased the B6+Biotin Enforcer Masque which is for dry, treated hair, but specialises in helping your hair become more resistant and stronger. I apply this one in the same way as the Lumino Masque.

AFTERCARE
This product is new to my hair care routine but it’s now a product I can’t imagine not ever using again. It is also from L’Oréal Professional and works best applied to towel dried hair. It really helps manage split ends and keeps your hair looking sleek whether your hair be curly or straight. You only need to use a small amount depending on the length of your hair so this tube should last you a good couple of months. It also smells amazing!

CLICK TO BUY - Bhave Hair Riot Control Oil
Bhave Hair Leave in Crème

This product I have used a little bit over the last few weeks but I wouldn’t say I neeeed to use it. I tend to use it a little bit throughout the day if my ends were feeling dry. The weather in the UK has gotten considerably colder this passed month so I just like to make sure my hair is staying moisturised. I focus this purely on the ends of my hair and nowhere else as its hair oil and I don’t want to end up with greasy hair. I’ve recently bought a different product by Bed Head which works just as well (or even maybe better than this one) It was recommended by the Hair Salon I recently visited so make sure you catch my next post to find out my thoughts!

Sometimes I use a leave in conditioner and crème by also by Bhave hair if I feel like a bit of a change, their products are also super kind to your hair.

CLICK TO BUY - Redken Diamond Oil
The last item I have to mention is a beautiful oil spray by Redken. It’s a really light, dry mist and comes in an aerosol can so it doesn’t come out too heavy weighing your hair down leaving it looking thick and greasy. (although it could do if you use too much!) I find it leaves my hair feeling silky smooth and so so shiny! I use this mainly after I have curled my hair as it really helps emphasise the waves and curls. I’m trying not to straighten my hair as much but if I do then I will use a little misting of this oil just to add that extra shine.
