KIEHL'S WINTER SKINCARE ROUTINE

It’s that time of year again when the weather turns bitter and cold, the heating goes on. As much as I love cosy nights in I hate how much my skin suffers. It becomes so dry and really difficult to manage. Each year I try to prepare a little morning and evening skincare routine but when I don’t feel that the products are working, it’s just not that enjoyable and I begin to slack. However this year is different; I’ve been very kindly sent some products by Kiehls to review and within my first use I got that happy, excited feeling because I could feel a difference in my skin straight away. My skin feels and looks so much healthier. I don’t usually wear a lot of foundation but I feel that in the winter my skin doesn’t have that warm summery glow. So I like to embrace the pale look by using a light foundation, but I ‘m always put off by the look of foundation on dry lifeless skin. Since using Kiehls products I’ve noticed that my makeup has applied so much better and my skin looks really smooth and bright.

I like to start by using the Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash. Others may use these products in a different order but this is just how I like to use them. So after I have taken my make up off I will use 1-2 pumps and massage it onto damp skin in upwards, circular motions. I will then rinse it off using a hot, wet flannel. As this product is free of soap and parabens it leaves my skin feeling really soft.

Now that my skin has been cleansed I will pat my face dry and apply the Turmeric and Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque. I apply a decent layer to the skin and leave it to dry. Once it has dried I use a small facial loofah and massage in circular motions then rinse with warm water. I would describe it as a clay masque that sets once it’s dried.  I don’t us it every day in my skincare routine but I like to try and use it 2/3 times a week. My skin can be sensitive at times and I would say that this masque is quite a strong one but I think that’s down to the Turmeric, it has a nice warmth to it though. The crushed cranberry seeds gently exfoliate the skin so if you did want to try this but had really sensitive skin then I would suggest only leaving it on 5 minutes or so as opposed to the recommended 5-10 minutes.

If I feel like my face needs a really good detox I will then use the Skin Brightening Exfoliator. Again I don’t always use include this step. Sometimes I will use just the scrub; sometimes just the masque and occasionally I will use both. But that’s only if I feel my skin needs a good seeing to. I love love love this scrub, it’s so light and foamy. It’s a really gentle scrub yet I can’t describe how smooth my skin feels afterwards and that’s without using a really coarse product. I massage it in using a wet facial loofah in circular motions for about 1-2 minutes then rinse as usual.

Once I have finished cleansing and exfoliating my skin I then move onto the Calendula Herbal Extract Alcohol-Free Toner. I usually use this straight after the face wash if I don’t exfoliate. I like this step as it’s really refreshing, especially if you’ve just got out of a hot bath or shower. I pour a little bit onto a cotton pad and wipe over my face in an upward motion. This makes double sure that you have got all the makeup and oil off. It also removes any dead skin/dirt that has been lifted from your skin when you used the scrub or masque. I also like to use this before I apply my makeup.

Before my package arrived I had actually just bought the Kiehls Creamy Eye Treatment Cream with Avocado. The fact that it had Avocado in it really intrigued me. It’s a teeny tiny pot but you only need to use a small amount. I apply this every evening using my ring fingers. I rub my fingers together to slightly heat up the cream and I then dab it around my eye area.

Then I use the Ultra Facial Cream all over my face and neck. This is a very lightweight moisturiser which I like as it doesn’t  sit heavy on the skin, it’s absorbed really quickly leaving my skin feeling really smooth and hydrated. Usually my skin would start to flag nearer the end of the day but I have noticed that my skin has stayed moisturised for longer.

Finally the last step in my skin care routine, the Midnight Recovery Concentrate! To me this is the Holy Grail of all facial serums! It smells ridiculously good, it comes in beautiful deep blue glass bottle and most importantly, it’s a complete skin saver! I use this in the evening by applying a few drops to my hand and patting it all over my face and neck. It absorbs into the skin fairly quickly and doesn’t leave your skin really greasy. If you have oily skin I would suggest using this on its own without a moisturiser but you could still use the eye cream if you wanted to.

Now that I have finished treating my face I like to apply the Crème De Corps body moisturiser. I mainly apply this too my legs and arms as they can get really dry from the cold weather and heating. I’m not usually one for using body creams as I hate the greasy feeling afterwards but I was surprised that this one didn’t have that effect at all. My skin felt really hydrated and smooth.
